چکیده

Since the industrial revolution era, Earth was suffering from serious air pollution. Millions of people are now indoor pollution related diseases, especially in industrialized countries such as China. One method to improve quality is by oxygen enhancement. Membrane technology has been a key research over past decades due its low energy usage, minimum chemical consumption well small setting up layout. In this study, polyetherimide (PEI) membranes coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) or poly(ether block amide) (PEBAX) at different concentration (1, 3 5 wt%) were used evaluate oxygen/nitrogen gas separation. Prior permeation characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM) for morphology observation and surface elemental analysis dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDX). The self-fabricated PEI composed thin dense structure supported finger-like structure. results obtained separation studies shows membrane wt% PDMS yield good results, exhibiting an improvement nitrogen permeance 28.2% 24.9%, selectivity 10.4% (up 5.08) relative base membrane. Meanwhile, PEBAX-coated only achieved 3.56. PDMS-coated better performance attributed fact that coating on hollow fiber reducing defects.

Pebax-Modified Cellulose Acetate Membrane for CO2/N2 Separation

Carbon dioxide (CO2) release from the exhaust gas streams of power plants that burn fossil fuels contributes the most emission of this gas, which includes more than half of the greenhouse effects. Thus, the separation of CO2 from exhaust gases is one of the main environmental concerns. Membrane technology, due to many advantages, has attracted many research attentions among the various gas sepa...

Fabrication and Characterization of Polyetherimide Hollow Fiber Membrane Contactor for Carbon Dioxide Stripping from Monoethanolamine Solution

In this research, process asymmetric polyetherimide hollow fiber membranes using ethanol (0, 2 and 4 wt%) as non-solvent additive in the polymer dope via phase inversion method were fabricated. Aqueous solution of 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidine (NMP) (90%) was applied as a bore fluid to avoid inner skin layer formation and water was used as the external coagulant. The morphology of fabricated membranes...

PDMS/PVDF composite pervaporation membrane for the separation of dimethyl carbonate from a methanol solution

In this paper, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composite membranes that were supported using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) microfiltration membrane were developed for the pervaporation (PV) of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from a methanol solution. Experimental studies on the solubility and the diffusivity of pure DMC and methanol in the membrane were first measured. Higher DMC uptake indicates that th...

Separation Efficiency of Epoxified-Polyethersulfone Blend Membrane for Chromium Removal

A microporous bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA) epoxified-polyethersulfone (PES) blend membrane (EPES membrane) was prepared through dry-wet phase inversion. This study attempts to correlate the changes in membrane physical and chemical properties when the EPES membranes were exposed to different durations of dry-phase inversion, towards the separation efficiency of carcinogen chromium (VI)....

Nanoparticle-coated PDMS elastomers for enhancement of Raman scattering.

A simple but efficient method for highly sensitive Raman detection, covering a thin polydimethylsiloxane elastomer, pre-coated with a layer of Au or Ag nanoparticles, onto the detected substrate, is proposed. Moreover, this nanoparticle-coated PDMS elastomer can be used for chemical imaging with high sensitivity.
